Seedy Saturday is an annual celebration of local seeds and food, gardening, and education that supports a healthy, strong community.
Starting in 2022 we’ll be moving toward an event focused on conservation, sustainability, and gardening. Our event will be focused on empowering the public to make environmentally choices and to grow food locally. We’re excited to start planning and join community partners based in Richmond.
We’ll still have our seed swap and seed library at our events, this is an integral part to reducing our greenhouse gases by growing our own food, and by protecting our crop diversity by saving our own seeds.
Our seed exchange table is a place for local seed-savers to bring locally-grown, open-pollinated seeds, and the stories that come with them, to trade with other community members. To participate in the seed exchange please note the following criteria:
- Seeds must be open-pollinated
- Seeds should be packaged and labelled with:
- Type of seed
- Year saved
- As much information about the variety as possible
- Number of seeds in the package (optional)
Part of our seed swap table is our seed swap. This is where gardeners can swap seed with other gardeners. It is a great way to grow crops that you might not want to start from seed or forgot to start early enough in the season.
At Seedy Saturday, we will build momentum for the self-sustaining cycle of growing from seeds by sharing the resources and skills necessary for embarking on your seed-saving journey – one that may continue for generations to come.
Our 2022 event is still in the planning stages. If you’re interested in being a vendor during our Seedy Saturday, please fill out the form below. We will be in touch shortly to speak with you about working together shortly. If you have any questions about the event, feel free to email [email protected]
