Welcome to Community Gardens

A community garden is a shared green space maintained by community garden members to grow food, flowers, and other plants. They provide opportunities for city residents to grow food, and to meet new friends, share knowledge, and build community. The food grown in each plot belongs to the registered gardeners, and cannot be used or sold for any commercial purposes. Welcome to the Community Gardens

Get Rooted Youth Program

Get Rooted Youth Program

Build the self-esteem, character, and engagement in the community of all high school-aged youth. Those hoping to fuel their personal development, while also building leadership skills. Learn about workshops and opportunities for students to develop their food literacy and gain experience in the food system. This year we are also working with Life Skills students by incorporating growing food into the classroom.

Fruit Recovery

Fruit Recovery

You'll collect unused fruit from residential fruit trees and bushes and donate it to the Richmond Food Bank and other community partners. In 2018 & 2019 we collected almost 12,000 lb of fruit that otherwise might have gone to waste! For 2020, we’ve added another 9,020 lb!

Kids in the Garden

Kids in the Garden

We bring facilitators into schools to lead seasonally-appropriate lessons with students from kindergarten to grade seven and integrate curriculum concepts to deepen learning.

Community Seed Library

Community Seed Library

Just like checking out a book from a book library, seed library members can ‘check out’ seeds from the seed library. Members then plant the seeds, grow the plants, and let some go to seed. Seeds are then collected, dried, cleaned, labelled and returned to the library for use by members the next year.

Garden Workshops

Garden Workshops

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW TO MAKE YOUR GARDEN GROW After each session, we’ll have time for questions, and garden tips and workshops will be presented by our Urban Agriculture Program Coordinator who is a Master Gardener. Bring your garden questions.

Donors & Affiliates

We are very privileged to be supported by and work with so many amazing community partners. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. If you would like to donate to our organization, please email [email protected]ichmondfoodsecurity.org or donate online.
